Wolves Statement on NBA G League’s Decision for 2021 Season
By Iowa Wolves Staff /January 8, 2021
The NBA G League announced today that the league will play a truncated 2021 season at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort near Orlando, Fla. because of health and safety considerations given the global pandemic.
The Iowa Wolves, along with 16 NBA G League teams and G League Ignite will take to the court in February. The top eight teams will advance to a single-elimination playoff.
“While we are disappointed the Iowa Wolves won’t be playing in front of fans at Wells Fargo Arena this season, we fully stand behind the decision made by the NBA G League to play in a single-site for the upcoming season,” said Iowa Wolves President Ryan Grant. “The league has worked diligently during the planning process to ensure the health and safety of our players while continuing its commitment to develop the next generation of professional basketball talent.”
Due to the NBA G League’s decision to play in a single-site, no games will be played at Wells Fargo Arena until the 2021-22 season.
“The Iowa Wolves are deeply engrained in the Des Moines community; we have the best fans in the NBA G League and we are committed to our city,” said Grant. “We look forward to celebrating with our fans the return of the Iowa Wolves to Wells Fargo Arena in the fall of 2021.”
The complete 2021 Iowa Wolves game and broadcast schedule will be announced at a later date.
