About the NBA G League
The NBA G League is the NBA’s official minor league, preparing players, coaches, officials, trainers, and front office staff for the NBA while acting as the league’s research and development laboratory. The league started as the NBA Development League beginning with the 2001-02 season. For the 2017-18 season, the NBA Development League (NBA D-League) was renamed the NBA G League as part of a multiyear expanded partnership between the NBA and Gatorade. This marked the first time a U.S. professional sports league was named an entitlement partner.
Featuring 31 teams — 30 with one-to-one affiliations with NBA franchises — the G league enters its 24th season in 2024-25 and offers elite professional basketball at an affordable price in a fun, family-friendly atmosphere.
The G League includes: Austin Spurs (San Antonio Spurs), Birmingham Squadron (New Orleans Pelicans), Capital City Go-Go (Washington Wizards), Cleveland Charge (Cleveland Cavaliers), College Park Skyhawks (Atlanta Hawks), Delaware Blue Coats (Philadelphia 76ers), Grand Rapids Gold (Denver Nuggets), Greensboro Swarm (Charlotte Hornets), Indiana Mad Ants (Indiana Pacers), Iowa Wolves (Minnesota Timberwolves), Long Island Nets (Brooklyn Nets), Maine Celtics (Boston Celtics), Memphis Hustle (Memphis Grizzlies), Mexico City Capitanes, Motor City Cruise (Detroit Pistons), Oklahoma City Blue (Oklahoma City Thunder), Osceola Magic (Orlando Magic), Raptors 905 (Toronto Raptors), Rio Grande Valley Vipers (Houston Rockets), Rip City Remix (Portland Trail Blazers), Salt Lake City Stars (Utah Jazz), San Diego Clippers (L.A. Clippers), Santa Cruz Warriors (Golden State Warriors), Sioux Falls Skyforce (Miami Heat), South Bay Lakers (Los Angeles Lakers), Stockton Kings (Sacramento Kings), Texas Legends (Dallas Mavericks), Valley Suns (Phoenix Suns), Westchester Knicks (New York Knicks), Windy City Bulls (Chicago Bulls) and Wisconsin Herd (Milwaukee Bucks).
The Portland Trail Blazers debuted their G League affiliate, the Rip City Remix, in 2023-24. For the 2024-25 season, the Ontario Clippers relocated and renamed their franchise, the San Diego Clippers and the Phoenix Suns will debut their G League affiliate, the Valley Suns. The Mexico City Capitanes is the lone unaffiliated team in the G League.
The Iowa Wolves will play a 50-game schedule in 2024-25 that will start Friday, Nov. 8 at Wells Fargo Arena against the Wisconsin Herd and end March 29 versus the South Bay Lakers at home. The Wolves are scheduled to play 24 home games at Wells Fargo Arena.
The 2024-25 NBA G League season schedule structure will include the first part, renamed the Tip-Off Tournament that begins on Friday, Nov. 8 and culminates when a champion is crowned during the 2024 NBA G League Winter Showcase December 19-22 in Orlando, Fla. For the Tip-Off Tournament, teams are placed into four regions to play 14 games exclusively against each other. View the four pods for 2024-25 here. The teams with the best winning percentage in each region along with the next four teams with the best winning percentages regardless of region will advance to compete for the Championship at the Winter Showcase. Every team will play at least two games at the Winter Showcase.
Winter Showcase is the NBA G League’s annual in-season scouting event where all of the league’s teams converge in one city to play in front of NBA general managers and player personnel executives from all 30 NBA teams. The 2024 event — Dec. 19-22 in Orlando, Florida— will be the 20th Showcase in league history. It will be the second Showcase held in Orlando after all previous iterations of the Winter Showcase were held in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Following the Tip-Off Tournament, team records will reset and the 34-game Regular Season will tip off on Friday, Dec. 27, bringing each team’s total games played to 50. At the conclusion of the Regular Season, the top six teams in each conference will qualify for the NBA G League Playoffs presented by Google Pixel, which conclude with the NBA G League Finals presented by YouTube TV in April 2025. The Valley Suns, the Phoenix Suns' new G League affiliate, will compete in the Tip-Off Tournament and the Regular Season this year and be eligible for the NBA G League Playoffs.
