Phillip Wheeler Helps Puerto Rico Qualify for 2023 FIBA World Cup

Iowa Wolves forward Phillip Wheeler has rejoined the team after helping Puerto Rico qualify for the 2023 FIBA World Cup. Wheeler will be available for Iowa’s game tonight at the NBA G League Ignite at 9 p.m. CT on ESPN+.

Puerto Rico defeated Brazil and Colombia at the most recent FIBA qualifying stage to join six other Americas teams that qualified for the upcoming 2023 32-team FIBA World Cup in August and September co-hosted by Indonesia, Japan and the Philippines. 

In four games with the Puerto Rican national team, Wheeler is averaging 3.0 points, 1.8 rebounds and 0.5 steals in 13.9 minutes per game. Wheeler has also played for the Puerto Rican U-19 team.

In 31 games (seven starts) with Iowa this season, Wheeler is averaging 8.3 points on 55.4 shooting, 4.3 rebounds and 0.7 assists in 17.5 minutes per game.
