Iowa Wolves Blowout Grand Rapids, 131-109, to Remain Undefeated at Home

DES MOINES, Iowa – The Iowa Wolves blew out the Grand Rapids Gold, 131-109, on Saturday night at Wells Fargo Arena to improve to 6-0 at home.

Iowa (9-5), which scored a season high in the big win, had eight players score in double figures as it completed the weekend sweep of Grand Rapids (2-10). 

Minnesota assignee Josh Minott had a monster game with 22 points, a season-high 14 rebounds and five assists. Coming off the bench, Brandon Sampson was next with 20 points while Phillip Wheeler scored a season-high 15 points, also off the bench. 

Adonis Arms had 23 points with Kellan Grady next with 22 points for the Gold. Jared Butler chipped in 21.

With the Wolves in control of the game midway through the third quarter, multiple reserves played the rest of the game. Javonte Cooke set a new career-high with 13 points, highlighted by an impressive buzzer-beater from 40 feet to end the third quarter. The reserves poured in 66 points as a group.

Iowa’s bench made an immediate impact in the first quarter helping turn a five-point deficit into a 37-29 lead after one quarter. In the turnaround, Wheeler drilled a three-pointer that gave the Wolves lead for good.

For the second consecutive night, Iowa took the momentum with a big second quarter as it led 73-50 at halftime. Minot erupted for 15 points after being held scoreless in the first.

Iowa continues its homestand Monday night with Motor City visiting Wells Fargo at 7 p.m. CT.
