Iowa Wolves Acquire Guard Stevie Thompson in Trade with Wisconsin Herd

The Iowa Wolves announced today that the team has acquired guard Stevie Thompson from the Wisconsin Herd in exchange for the 16th overall pick in the 2026 NBA G League Draft and the returning player rights of guards Skylar Mays and Jaylen Sims.

Thompson, 6-4, saw action in 45 games (25 starts) last season with the Wisconsin Herd, the NBA G League Affiliate of the Milwaukee Bucks, tallying 15.8 points on 46.1% shooting, including 41.1% from deep, 5.4 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.3 steals in 31.7 minutes per contest. 

The Torrance, Calif. native posted seven double-doubles this past season, including a season-high 32 points on 8-of-12 shooting, including 5-of-7 from three, nine rebounds and a season-high 11 assists on Jan. 9 against the Long Island Nets. On March 11 against the Osceola Magic, Thompson finished the game with 27 points, seven rebounds, eight assists and a season-high-tying five steals marking the first 25+ point/5+ rebound/5+ assist/5+ steal game of his career.

The 29-year-old guard played four seasons at Oregon State University, appearing in 121 games (94 starts), averaging 14.6 points on 42.5% shooting, including 34.0% from three, 3.3 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.5 steals in 32.6 minutes per game. Thompson was named to the 2019 All-PAC-12 Second Team following his senior season with the Beavers.

Mays, 6-3, appeared in 19 games (12 starts) for the Wolves during the 2024-25 season, averaging 12.5 points on 42.1% shooting, including 39.0% from three and 80.8% from the free throw line, 3.4 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 1.4 steals in 29.4 minutes per game.

Sims, played 50 games (30 starts) last season for the Greensboro Swarm, averaging 16.8 points on 45.1% shooting, including 36.6% from deep and 88.6% from the free throw line, 5.1 rebounds and 2.6 assists in 28.4 minutes per game.
