Iowa Routs Austin, 141-110, in Series Finale

DES MOINES, Iowa – The Iowa Wolves routed the Austin Spurs, 141-110, on Sunday afternoon at Wells Fargo Arena.

Iowa (5-10) scored a season-high and recorded its largest margin of victory this season in the rout. Newly acquired Craig Randall II had another outstanding performance, dropping a game-high 34 points off the bench to go with five rebounds, five assists and three steals. In just his second game with the Wolves, Randall II connected for seven three-pointers, and has made 14 total threes in the two games.

PJ Dozier finished with a season-high 30 points while DJ Carton added 25 points. Dozier and Randall II are the fifth and sixth Iowa players to have a 30+ scoring game this season. 

Austin (5-11) was led in scoring by San Antonio Spurs assignee Blake Wesley who had 28 points.

On the game’s first possession, Brandon Sampson buried a three-pointer on the Wolves’ first possession. Sampson was injured on the next possession by the Spurs and did not return. Later, Austin came back to lead 16-12 but an 11-0 run by Iowa forced a timeout by Spurs trailing 23-16. 

Iowa never trailed again and would lead by as many as 45 in the easy victory in the second game of the back-to-back series between the teams.

As a team, Iowa made 19 three-pointers, went 13-of-13 from the free throw line and its bench scored 65 points. Also coming off the bench, Jordy Tshimanga and Phillip Wheeler each scored 13 points. 

Matt Lewis had 10 points, four rebounds and five assists. Emmanuel Mudiay tallied eight points and handed out eight assists and pulled down seven rebounds. 

Iowa will host the Mexico City Capitanes for its Education Day Game presented IMT Insurance on Tuesday morning at 10:30 a.m.
