Iowa Defeats G League Ignite, 117-103

HENDERSON, Nev. – The Iowa Wolves claimed its first regular season victory on Wednesday night beating the G League Ignite by a final score of 117-103 at The Dollar Loan Center.

For Iowa (1-4), Tyrese Martin poured in a season-high 30 points on 9-of-19 shooting, including equaling his season-best with six three-pointers. Martin added a season-high 13 rebounds along with seven assists and three blocks.

The rest of the Wolves’ scoring was balanced with five players scoring 13 or more points. Newly added Giorgi Bezhanishvili scored 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Trevor Keels had 18 points with three threes. Lance Stephenson finished with 16 points, 16 rebounds, seven assists and three blocks. Javonte Cooke added 17 points while D.J. Carton had 13 points.

Likely 2024 NBA lottery picks Ron Holland II and Matas Buzelis led the Ignite (0-8) with 30 and 16 points, respectively. 

The Ignite, which trailed by 20 in the game, got within three points late in the third quarter. However, Martin buried a three and Iowa maintained a multiple possession lead the rest of the game.  

Iowa continues its road trip at the Stockton Kings on Friday night with a 9 p.m. CT game.
