Horizon Elementary Top School in Fall Read to Achieve Session

DES MOINES, Iowa – Horizon Elementary in Johnston is the winning school for the fall session of Read to Achieve, the Iowa Wolves and Athene announced today.
Horizon had the highest percentage of students complete the reading challenge of more than 500 minutes. Horizon will receive the Read to Achieve trophy, a pizza party for the school hosted by Northern Lights Pizza and an appearance by Iowa's favorite mascot, Alpha.
"We are thrilled for first-time winner Horizon Elementary that finished first in a session with record breaking participation numbers,” said Chip Albright, Iowa Wolves Vice President of Marketing. “We can’t wait to reward Horizon students and staff with fun at a game this season, pizza from our official pizza party provider Northern Lights Pizza and fun swag for all their hard work."
“We are so proud of this year’s record-breaking Read to Achieve Program in partnership with the Iowa Wolves,” said Amanda Carstens Steward, Senior Vice President, Head of Marketing at Athene. “We know kids who enjoy reading tend to achieve higher educational outcomes and graduation rates. Congratulations to each student and school for preparing for a brighter future.”
More than 3,000 students reached the 500-minute goal with the total number of minutes read more than two million. Every student who completed the goal was rewarded with an Iowa Wolves prize pack that included a bookmark, drawstring backpack, pencil and two free tickets to an Iowa Wolves home game during the 2023-24 season.
The Iowa Wolves and Athene look forward to continuing a love for reading with students with the upcoming winter session (Dec. 11 to Jan. 22) of Read to Achieve. Registration is now open through Dec. 8. Register here.
