Former Iowa Wolves Coaches Earn Promotions with Timberwolves

MINNEAPOLIS – The Minnesota Timberwolves announced today coaching staff updates that include promotions for three former Iowa Wolves coaches. Former Iowa head coach Jeff Newton has been promoted to Assistant Coach while former Wolves assistants Nate Bubes, Chris Hines and James White are now Assistant Coach/Director of Player Development, Assistant Coach/Quality Control Coach and Player Development Coach, respectively, for the Timberwolves staff.
Newton, who was Iowa’s head coach for the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons, enters his sixth season with the organization after serving as quality control coach last season and previously as a player development/offensive associate with the Timberwolves.
Bubes was an assistant coach for Iowa this past season. Prior to his coaching stint in Des Moines, he spent two seasons with the Timberwolves as quality control coach.
Hines is in his fifth season with the organization having previously served as a player development coach and associate. He was an assistant coach for the Wolves for the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons. Hines recently served as the head coach of the Timberwolves' NBA 2K25 Summer League 2024 team that went 4-1.
White was an assistant coach on Newton's 2022-23 staff in Iowa. He spent last season as a player development assistant in Minnesota.
