Youth Basketball Initiative

The Iowa Wolves proudly support a vibrant youth basketball scene accessible to all kids in Des Moines and surrounding communities.

Youth basketball is an important part of a healthy community and as Des Moines and the surrounding communities continue to grow there is an increasing need for more volunteer coaches. The Wolves have heard from several organizations that this need is growing every year but it’s harder to find new coaches because of lack of familiarity with the game.

New Iowa Wolves’ Head Coach Ernest Scott has created a video tutorial designed specifically for new youth basketball coaches to feel comfortable stepping on the court and assisting in growing the game.

This video tutorial is focused on the fundamentals and developing skills while making practices structured and fun for youth. In addition to the video, coaches can download a handy checklist of activities, drills and simple plays and defenses to run.

As a thank you to all the new coaches, the Wolves would like to treat the coaches and their families to an NBA G League Iowa Wolves game this 2023-24 season at Wells Fargo Arena. The Wolves' schedule is viewable here and coaches can sign up for the complimentary tickets (maximum four) via this form.
