2019-2020 IOWA WOLVES DANCER AUDITION INFO
The Iowa Wolves are looking for the best professional and aspiring dancers in central Iowa to join our dance team for the 2019-2020 season! If you are looking to show off your unique dance style, pump up Wolves fans during games and be involved in the community — then please join us to audition!
FREE PREP CLASS:
Thursday, September 5th 7:45-9:30pm
Aspen Athletic Club group fitness room (6103 SE 14th Street, Des Moines, IA 50320)
No registration required
Sunday, September 15th 12:00-4:00pm (or later if need to complete all performances, interviews and final selections)
Check In begins at 11:30am
**Final selections will be made at this audition. Those who are selected will be asked to stay for a short team meeting.
*Audition day includes across-the-floor techniques, rehearsal, group performance of learned routine and individual interviews

$20 if application turned in to Iowa Wolves Office by 4pm on Friday, September 13th
$30 at the door on day of audition
All audition fees are CASH ONLY.
Pre-registration is not required, but strongly encouraged.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
What are the requirements to attend auditions and become an Iowa Wolves Dancers?
Dance experience or professional dance training is recommended (gymnastic skills are also a plus, but not required).
You need a schedule flexible enough to accommodate a minimum of 2 rehearsals per week in addition to game nights and team events (starting Thursday, Sept. 19th).
Schedule flexibility for practices, games and appearances.
You must be at least 18 years of age at the time of auditions.
You must be a full time student, or have a part time job.
What do I need to bring to auditions?
4×6 non-returnable professional headshot or full body photo – your photo should be a current representation of yourself, and should be of only you.
Completed audition application, if not already turned in prior to audition date. Be sure to outline your dance and performance experience along with anything else you would like the judges to know about you.
Water, snacks and dance shoes (non-marking).
What should I wear to the audition?
Crop top (mid-section must show)
Dance shorts or briefs (no long pants or leggings allowed)
Jazz shoe, dance sneaker or non-marking athletic shoes only
Attire should be flattering. Dress to impress!
Performance hair and make-up that compliment your individual style are a must!
What do the judges look for at auditions?
Dance technique and style
Showmanship, personality and energy
Physical/personal appearance – applicants must be in top physical condition
Professionalism & maturity
What are the criteria you are looking for in an Iowa Wolves Dancer?
Must be able to strongly perform a variety of dance styles, including hip hop and jazz
Must be able to learn choreography quickly, and have strong memory retention
Must be willing to meet and maintain physical conditioning standards of a professional dancer
Must be a team player
Must have strong work ethic; willing to work hard and commit at all times
Must be personable with strong communication skills, willing to engage with others with a high level of enthusiasm, confidence and poise
What is the format of the auditions?
Introduction and Iowa Wolves expectations
Group stretch and warm up
Across the floor combinations (including jazz walks, turns and leaps to access technical ability)
Learn a choreographed routine (may include jazz, technical and hip hop styles)
*You will NOT need to have a personal routine prepared, however dancers may be asked to freestyle
Perform routine in both small and large groups
individual interview with judges
Deliberation and final dancer selections posted (all who audition will be asked to wait in a separate space during this time)
Short team meeting with all selected dancers for the 2019-2020 team
Will auditions be open to the public?
All auditions are closed to the public. This helps ensure a professional and relaxed atmosphere for all participants.
Do last season’s dance team members have to audition?
Yes, all returning members must go through the audition process each season. Their spots on the team are not guaranteed.
How many dancers will be selected for the Iowa Wolves Dance Team?
Between 10-12 dancers will be selected.
Is this a full time job?
Being an Iowa Wolves Dancer is not a full time job. All dancers must either hold a part time job, or be a full time student in addition to their Dance Team duties. Dancers are responsible for ensuring their schedules are flexible enough to accommodate rehearsals and games, as well as team and community events. A total commitment is required. The time commitment is usually 5-10 hours a week for rehearsals and appearances in addition to the home games. Iowa Wolves Dancers must sign a one year contract (includes season and off-season).
Is this a paid job?
Dancers are compensated for games, practices and team events.
Additional benefits include, but are not limited to: complimentary and/or discounted salon services, gym membership and tanning, professional photo shoot, merchandise discount and opportunity to attend a Minnesota Timberwolves game (details TBD).
If I make the team, when are practices each week?
Practices are held weekly on Mondays and Thursdays from 7:30-10pm. Additional practices may be required upon request.
**If scheduling allows practices could be moved up to 6:30-8:30pm.
Dancers are also expected to complete 20 minutes of cardio activity prior to the start of each practice, while maintaining a regular fitness routine on their own time as well.
There will be a team meeting immediately following dancer selections on Sunday, September 15th. Practices will begin on Thursday, September 19th and continue through Thursday, April 16, 2020.
